All Things to All (...persons)
Paul wrote:
I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews;
To those who are under the Law, as under the Law... that I might win those under the Law
To those who are without law, as without law...that I might win those who are without law
To the weak I became weak that I might win the weak
I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some
(And by the way...)
I do all things for the sake of the Gospel
And the final exhortation...
Run in such a way that you might win!
What does this say to us? It says several things... It says that we need to be adaptable. It also says that the salvation of the person we are trying to touch with the love of Christ is more important than the method we use — and for his or her sake it is worth changing it
Individuals are so important to God that no effort should be spared — even though what we do may be ridiculed and may be out-of-line in terms of what is "normal". And we should not overlook the bottom line: run — that we might win!
